| The Ensenada Project |
| I currently live in Ensenada, Mexico, as some of you know. The main reason is to develop a studio/home building on this lot, the one with the boat, about 50x60'. It's an exciting project, to test and apply the various design and building skills i've learned in Los Angeles as a renter. It's also a low-budget endeavor, which will surely make the edifice an alternative one. The area is Pedregal Playitas, overlooking the Pacific, neighboring blocks away CICESE, the UNAM's multi-field research institute as well as the UABC's Marine Science school. While getting ready to start building, i'm staying in downtown Ensenada, in this funky building pictured with blue ladder, a "studio" i've been finishing on a sort of mini-ranch owned for many years by my grand-parents, where usually members of my extended family stay while in this town. I'll call this the Floresta (street) house, made up of 2 main modest houses, this is the one i stay in and have made my home for the last few weeks. Soon, when construction on the beach house starts, i'll be staying there, Spartan style, perhaps in the boat. All are welcome to visit! This part of Mexico is its own thing, sort of magical in spite of all the oft-discussed violence and strife, mostly affecting Tijuana to the north. Friends i can house you, if you can swing the Spartan lifestyle, like no hot water in Floresta house, where i currently stay. Hotels and main "tourist" street, 2 blocks away, range from 60 dollars, nice and clean, to about 200 for deluxe.
